The Endangered Species Act reached higher into mountains of the Columbia Basin yesterday when the bull trout was listed as threatened by the federal government.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the brawny fish as threatened in parts of Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
Standing on the banks of the Big Blackfoot River, Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt said the agency is considering extending the listing to include bull trout in Puget Sound and on the Olympic Peninsula, as well as in isolated parts of Montana and the Idaho-Nevada border.
