Downsizing is in store for the unwieldy 22-member King County Board of Health, but grocery, tobacco, beer and wine interests apparently won't get their wish for a County Council takeover of health board functions.
With the current composition of the health board set to expire June 30, merchants of tobacco, beer and wine - who fear expansion of advertising regulations from the current city-county mix of health board members - saw the opportunity to have local health policy set by the County Council's Republican majority.
Unless the health board is reconstituted by the end of the month, its duties would fall to the County Council, where Republicans ...
