Japan and South Korea's financial problems have stymied efforts in Uzbekistan to develop new industries, the Central Asian republic's ambassador to the United States said yesterday in Seattle.
``It is one of the most significant crises that we face,'' Ambassador Sodyq Safaev, clearly in the hunt for U.S. investors, told a breakfast session organized by the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle and the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association.
Investments from Asia have slowed since currencies there began to fall in value, stalling Uzbekistan's program to become a producer of finished goods instead of a supplier of raw products, he said.
