When former Mariner reliever Mike Schooler wasn't selected to the American League All-Star team in 1989, despite being among the league leaders in saves, teammates tried to console him by saying ``Wait until next year.''
But ``next year'' never came.
Schooler's ultimate season, which ended with 33 saves that still stands as the club record, turned out to be his only chance of earning an All-Star invitation. An arm injury ended the right-hander's career prematurely.
