A panel of judges yesterday cleared Washington Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders of wrongdoing in an ethics case stemming from his appearance at an anti-abortion rally.
Nine judges from the state Court of Appeals, standing in for members of the state Supreme Court, ruled unanimously to overturn a judicial watchdog panel's May 1997 decision to reprimand Sanders for weakening public confidence in the judiciary.
Sanders was accused of violating the Judicial Code of Conduct after he briefly addressed a March for Life rally an hour after taking the oath of office in January 1996. He didn't specifically mention abortion during the address, nor did he ...
