Undoubtedly, Shane Monahan will be one of those players who is known as gritty, hard-nosed, tough. That's the exterior and the mindset.
Eventually, Monahan also might be recognized as an angry young man, but only occasionally and just because the Mariners' new left fielder is such a perfectionist. When his own expectations aren't met, tantrums result with helmets flying, teammates scattering.
It is in his competitive nature, not to mention his genes. This descendant of two Hockey Hall of Famers would body check you into the boards, a candidate for the penalty box if he still played the game.
