A major international cruise ship line is expected to announce today its plans to base a brand-new, 2,000-passenger cruise ship at the Port of Seattle's Bell Street Pier complex at Pier 66.
It will be the first time a large modern-day cruise ship has been based here - partly because of American laws restricting such vessels. The ship, reportedly operated by a Norwegian cruise line, would offer weekly cruises to Alaska's Glacier Bay during the summer.
The deal will culminate years of effort by the Port of Seattle, Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and other pro-tourism groups to establish a Seattle base for big cruise ships.
