Although Robert LaVigne hasn't exhibited in town for 10 years, he has been busy, as his current show at the Black Lab Gallery attests.
The oldest oil painting in the show, ``Edge'' from 1994, presents a striking contrast to newer work. It's an abstraction on a garden theme whose colors get a ragged buzz off each other's company. There's a vibrating hum to the massed contours of bleached, pastel shades, darkening at their tips.
Color is bolder, more solid and serene in ``Count,'' finished this year. The action is flush against the picture plane, with no feeling for recessive space or shade. Organic shapes in bright shades of orange, pink and red bounded ...
