I'm pleased to inform you that contrary to erroneous news reports of a threefold increase in costs, the cost estimates for remodeling the Downtown Seattle Bus Tunnel to accommodate light rail use still approximate Sound Transit's budget for completing this work. A recently released report by Sound Transit, King County Metro and City of Seattle estimated the costs for a range of options for making the tunnel ready for light rail. It found that the highest cost to Sound Transit for tunnel renovation and reconstruction of Convention Place Station, the northern terminus of the existing tunnel, could be $117 million.
