The musical ``Grease'' is a flashback to 1959 and a group of teens graduating from high school. That same year, Ernest Evans was 17 and about to morph from a student who sang to shoppers at the chicken store where he worked after school into a rock 'n' roll star named Chubby Checker.
``It was the beginning of one career but the end of another one,'' Checker said in an interview last week. ``I had been in `Brigadoon' and `South Pacific' in school and was on my way to Broadway and being like Sammy Davis Jr., standing up in a tuxedo and singing.''
