Wiring from an entertainment system aboard Swissair Flight 111 showed signs of significant heat damage, prompting the airline to switch off the system on other Boeing planes in its fleet, crash investigators said yesterday.
Swissair said the systems, which cost between $20 million and $30 million to buy and install, would be deactivated ``until further notice'' in three 747s and its 15 remaining MD-11s.It was an MD-11 that crashed. The widebody jets were manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, which is now part of The Boeing Co.
