Millions of Americans are getting letters about the Social Security benefits they'll someday be entitled to receive - even those nowhere near retirement age.
Lawmakers planned the mailing years ago, hoping to help people understand how the nation's retirement system works.
Now, the letters are proving both timely and a little controversial as President Clinton and Republican leaders prepare for negotiations that may lead to significant changes to Social Security next year.
