This holiday season, high-tech is higher, the prices are lower and some bold new gadgets have just hit the shelves.
Car computer: One of the most sophisticated on-board computers is the AutoPC, by Clarion. This innocuous-looking in-dash device seems to do everything but steer the car, and it can even help do that with the optional GPS Navigation system attached.
The most interesting consumer feature of the AutoPC is the voice-control system. It can recognize up to 200 words, and the driver can ask it in a loud voice to do different tasks, like change from FM stereo to the CD player.
The $1,700 system essentially operates like a regular computer. ...
