Seahawks coach Dennis Erickson will be fired next week, not because he failed, but because he did not meet the expectations of his new bosses.
Those now running the Seahawks' franchise for new owner Paul Allen are results-oriented products of the computer revolution. They want things done yesterday, not today and definitely not tomorrow.
Erickson is a stay-the-course type, a trait that has served him and others in the coaching profession well. But that approach is at odds with those who control his destiny, and is becoming outdated in the win-now world of professional football.
