Last fall, a review copy of a new garden book arrived at my doorstep in a huge box. Besides the book - a really fun one called ``Women of Flowers,'' by Jack Kramer (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, $35) which I reviewed for Christmas - the box also held a thriving cymbidium orchid.
Though I don't usually grow them, I love the exotic look of orchids. I set this sunny little creature right by the kitchen sink, where I could admire it daily. Soon, however, those long, lush leaves turned tattered and torn.
