David Foster Wallace is hardly the usual cruise ship passenger, what with his shoulder-length hair tucked under his full-color Spiderman cap and his bags loaded with a host of neuroses, plus his being about half the usual cruising age, and traveling by himself besides. So David Foster Wallace's report of his seven-night Caribbean cruise is hardly the usual paean to cushy pampering, deluxe cuisine and lazy days under ``the vast lapis lazuli dome of the sky.''
Wallace's cruise ship report does include ``the kind of coffee you marry somebody for being able to make.'' But it also includes a cruise ship director who ``looks like he's constantly posing for a photograph ...
