Not satisfied with their personnel, the Mariners continued to tinker with their roster yesterday by signing free-agent infielder Alvaro Espinoza and optioning Andy Sheets to Class AAA Tacoma.
In Espinoza, Seattle gets a 35-year-old Venezuelan who gives true meaning to the label utility man - he plays all four infield positions.
The studious looking player who sports a flattop haircut joins his fifth big-league club. He traveled a circuitous route just to get from his last stop to the Mariners.
