The state Department of Transportation plans to reopen the North Cascades Highway today - weather permitting - even as crews continue to remove nearly 10 feet of snow from the road.
The reopening comes as welcome news to this north-central Washington town where tourism has replaced logging and ranching as an economic mainstay.
