Turkey's military leadership yesterday stepped up its pressure on the country's Islamist-led government, and the key secular member of the coalition said that a change of government ``is expected in the coming days.''
``The Republic is facing an extremely serious threat,'' Gen. Fevzi Turkeri, chief of military intelligence, asserted at one of a series of extraordinary briefings that the military began Tuesday and continued conducting yesterday. ``Political Islam is working closely with Iran and some other Islamic countries to pull Turkey into an endless darkness.''
