The average life span of a black man in San Francisco is about 60 years - far shorter than for any other racial group, according to a new report.
Black men in San Francisco also live shorter lives on average than black men in the United States as a whole, the study found. Their life span is equivalent to the average life expectancy of black American men in 1970 and of white American men in 1940.
``African American men in San Francisco are having a health crisis that is horrific,'' said Dr. Tomas Aragon of the city Health Department, who is conducting the research for the Bayview-Hunters Point Health & Environmental Assessment Project.
