Leaders from Washington, Alaska and Canada met yesterday to ease tensions in the ongoing salmon war - and did just that.
While a more lasting solution still eludes U.S. and Canadian leaders, officials from the region said their meeting at least opens new lines of communication.
Washington Gov. Gary Locke hosted Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles, Alaska Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmar and Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans David Anderson.
Yesterday's summit was suggested by Knowles when he and Locke met at the just-concluded National Governor's Conference in Las Vegas.
