Information and instruction on mehndi may be scarce, but the henna for dying is not.
Made from leaves of the Lawsonia inermis plant, it's been used to dye skin and hair for centuries.
And there are skilled mehndi artists in the area who use henna to decorate everything from hands and feet to navels.
Mehndi practitioners do not have to be licensed as cosmetologists, since no needles or toxic materials are used and it's not permanent.
But it takes several hours for the henna to dry. So don't plan on getting painted an hour before dressing and going out.
