A month ago I was celebrating. I took my family to Oregon's Wallowa Valley where we were inspired by the natural beauty. We stayed in a cabin with a perfect view from our window: some snow-capped mountains and the wild Wallowa River.
We were also excited because the school board in the town of Enterprise did the right thing and abandoned its high school's mascot, the ``Savages.'' The label is indefensible by any civil standard; it is racist.
A lot of people cheered the school board's action. Indeed, the July decision was well-timed. The Nez Perce Tribe, the original occupants of the Wallowa Valley, had returned home as landowners and the place began to ...
