In the workplace, survival depends on understanding the ``power structure.'' We are always on the lookout for ``power plays.''

Despite our preoccupation with it, the nature of power is widely misunderstood, according to Blaine Lee, author of ``The Power Principle'' (Simon & Schuster, 1997, $25).
