Creation of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area 11 years ago focused national and international attention on one of the most spectacular chunks of scenery in the Northwest.
With this designation has come an increase in visitor activities, attractions and amenities. In the 100 miles upstream from Vancouver, Wash. and Portland, Ore., you can hike, take a boat trip, fish, go horseback riding, wind surf, see petroglyphs, camp, play golf and tennis, visit historical museums and interpretive centers (including a new one opening this month), ride on an excursion railroad and view fine art.
