The city of Seattle's drug-testing of job applicants is unconstitutional and violates basic human dignity, the American Civil Liberties Union charged in a lawsuit filed yesterday.
The city will defend the policy, which was adopted last year as part of a ``no tolerance'' stance toward drug use, said Rebecca Hale, a spokeswoman for Mayor Norm Rice.
The suit, filed in King County Superior Court, contends that the city could use less intrusive measures, such as thorough background checks, to screen job applicants. It alleges that blanket testing amounts to an unreasonable search under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and violates privacy ...
