The Battle Mountain Gold Co. won a key permit yesterday for its proposed open pit gold mine in Okanogan County.
The state Department of Ecology announced it has approved water rights permits that the company sought for its Crown Jewel Mine near Chesaw.
Several more permits from local, state and federal agencies are needed before construction and mining operations can begin. But the water right was viewed by some as the toughest hurdle.
