Sonics guard Hersey Hawkins began his career in Philadelphia as a major scorer. The Sixers didn't bug him about petty details, such as playing a little defense.
``But when you get to a team where you have to play defense, your skills come out,'' Gary Payton, Hawkins' backcourt mate, said after the Sonics' 112-105 victory over the Sixers yesterday at the CoreStates Center.
Hawkins is five seasons removed from his playing days with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he couldn't have been any closer to the Sixers (0-5) yesterday.
