Richard Socarides, the Clinton liaison with the gay community, told me this week how a president came to make history.
I refer to Clinton's keynote address last Saturday evening to the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's premier political organization of gays and lesbians. Long after the defeat of ``fast track'' trade legislation, that other political event of the weekend, is forgotten, millions of Americans will never forget what this American president did and said about their struggle against discrimination.
