A fire that forced dozens of residents to flee their homes in a Capitol Hill apartment building was caused by a faulty electrical extension cord, fire officials said yesterday.
The fire Monday night did $250,000 damages to the St. John Apartments at 725 E. Pike St., said Capt. Brian Mills, Fire Department spokesman.
