Taco Bell will pay back wages to up to 16,000 people in Washington state under a settlement announced yesterday with former employees who successfully sued the fast-food chain for violating labor laws.
Payments could total between $10 million and $15 million, said David Mark, an attorney for the employees.
The agreement was disclosed eight months after a King County Superior Court jury found that Taco Bell had deliberately cheated its hourly workers in Washington state, many of them young women, by forcing them to work off the clock, forgo overtime pay and skip lunch and rest breaks.
