Like many 15-year-olds, Brett Barker loves sports. Now, thanks to a new drug for treating cystic fibrosis, he can play them.
Brett, a sophomore at Lake Washington High School, was one of the earliest participants in clinical trials for a drug that combats lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. The drug is made by PathoGenesis Corp. of Seattle.
Brett was thrilled yesterday with the news that the FDA had approved use of the drug for patients like him.
``I think it's great,'' he said. ``I've been waiting for this.''
The company was equally delighted.
