Clint Eastwood is receiving both a career achievement award and a retrospective at the Venice Film Festival.
You know what that means: Career over. Awards for things past tend to be a sign that awards for things present have long dried up.
So it's particularly noteworthy that Eastwood's appearance Wednesday to open the festival comes on the heels of his his biggest stateside hit since "The Bridges of Madison County."
"Space Cowboys," No. 3 at the box office this past weekend, is more than halfway to a $100 million take, and it ushers in an ambitious slate of films competing for prizes at Venice.
