I think `Waiting for Godot' has set a record for speed in becoming a classic,'' says writer/actor/director Bill Irwin.
Plays by the Greeks, Shakespeare and Moliere have been proved and approved by centuries of performance. ``But `Godot' ... it was first performed about 40 years ago. And then - boom! - instant classic,'' Irwin says.
Irwin, a New Yorker, is in town to appear in the Seattle Repertory Theatre's production of ``Godot,'' which opens Wednesday. Six years ago, Irwin appeared in a celebrated New York production of the Samuel Beckett tragicomedy that starred Robin Williams and Steve Martin.
