I have never taken to Lamar Alexander. Lamar. It's a strange name and America has never gotten much out of presidents with strange first names.
In fact, one reason this country got off to such a flying start was our wise selection of early presidents with solid mainstream names like George, John, Thomas and James.
Our first experiment beyond this norm (not that we've ever actually experimented with a Norm) was Abraham. I'll admit he had his moments. But the fact remains we had a bloody civil war and he got shot.
