The adolescent pregnancy rate in King County hit its lowest level in 14 years in 1994, a new public health report shows.

That year - the most recent for which figures are available - there were about 50 pregnancies for every 1,000 teens ages 15 to 17. In 1981, the rate was 57 pregnancies among every thousand adolescents.

The drop was not as pronounced in Seattle, where the adolescent pregnancy rate remained higher than comparable rates for the county, the state and the nation. One in 11 teens between 15 and 17 became pregnant in 1994, the survey by the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health found.
