A team of engineers, medical researchers, biologists and chemists at the University of Washington has been awarded $25 million from the National Science Foundation to establish a new project aimed at fooling the human body.
The new research center, to be called UW Engineered Biomaterials, is dedicated to creating biomedical devices and materials that truly will be ``bionic'' in that they are intended to be fully incorporated into the body.
The UW is one of four institutions - out of 117 that applied - awarded funding by the federal agency, which promotes progress in science, technology and education. The awards will be announced today.
