Is Bill Clinton the grinch who is trying to steal Bob Dole's presidential campaign? Dole contends he is; Clinton denies it.
After Clinton declared his support for the innovative - some call it radical - welfare reform plan drafted by Wisconsin's Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson, Dole asserted that the president is a purloiner of political issues.
For Dole, the trouble was Clinton had co-opted his Republican challenger on one of the most important issues of the current campaign. In his weekly radio address May 18, Clinton endorsed Thompson's plan, knowing that Dole was slated to appear in Fond du Lac three days later to announce a similar stance.
