The raging debate over same-sex marriage has revealed that social conservatives have little respect for constitutional values and that President Clinton values nothing except his re-election.
There are people of good faith on both sides of the issue. Advocates of same-sex marriage see it as a civil right and a way to promote stable relations among homosexual couples. Opponents believe there is a societal value in maintaining the traditional institution of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
But the Defense of Marriage Act now galloping through Congress has more to do with politics than same-sex marriage. Republicans are desperate to find a ...
