Saying that she cannot raise enough money to pay for crucial television advertisements, Sen. Nita Rinehart, D-Seattle, yesterday dropped out of the race for governor.
Rinehart was the first Democrat to enter the race, and she was the first major candidate to withdraw. She was the only woman seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.
Rinehart said she decided several days ago that she would be unable to raise the $400,000 she believes she would need to buy TV ads in September. Such advertising, she said, is far more important than all the grassroots campaigning she has been doing in recent months.
