A young gang member with a long police record is among several ``people of interest'' in the investigation of an arson that gutted a predominantly black north Portland church last month.
The Oregonian newspaper quoted unidentified sources who said he is the primary focus of the investigation. The gang member, who is black, currently is being held in jail in Portland on a probation violation.
Police Capt. Greg Clark, head of the detective division, said the inmate ``is very definitely a person we're looking at in this investigation.''
However, he declined to say if the man is the sole focus of the investigation.
