The Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation of the proposed alliance between American Airlines and British Airways to determine if it would unfairly dominate the main airborne gateway to England and Europe.
Justice Department spokesman Bill Brooks confirmed yesterday that the agency's antitrust division is reviewing the proposal to coordinate various services, including flight schedules, air fares and passenger and cargo service.
