Article: FAMILY-PLANNING PROGRAM AT RISK IN UNITED STATES.(Editorial)

The Robin Hood Foundation's recent report on adolescent child-bearing contained no real surprises. We've long known the severity of the consequences for the young parent, and to society as a whole. But the information is appalling just the same.

Among the findings: Children born to adolescent mothers are more likely than those born to older parents to experience poor health, to live in homes without fathers, to become runaways, to suffer abuse and neglect, to drop out of high school, to end up in prison as adults and to become adolescent mothers themselves. The Robin Hood Foundation also found that adolescent mothers are more likely to be poor and stay poor.
