If you can trace any of your ancestors to the time of the American Revolution - probably six to eight generations back - you may discover some received bounty land for their services, if they fought for or supported the Patriots.
Shortly after the Revolutionary War began 220 years ago, the Continental Congress promised land to those who would serve in the Continental Army. The amount of acreage so pledged was on a sliding scale based on rank, ranging from 100 to 1,000 acres.
