An unusually strong run of sockeye salmon has resulted in a bonus for local anglers.
The first sockeye salmon season on Lake Washington since 1988 will open Saturday for three days, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced yesterday.
Judging from past turnouts, small boats will nearly cover the water for this rare chance to catch the fish so close to home.
The record sockeye season eight years ago lasted about nine weeks and attracted an estimated 9,000 anglers on its most crowded day, said Fish and Wildlife biologist Dick Geist. This year's short season and the long period since the last one increase the likelihood of a large ...
