Supporters of Teamsters presidential candidate Jimmy Hoffa staged a boisterous beginning to the union convention yesterday, booing a U.S. senator, two national anthems and even a moment of silence for deceased members, including Hoffa's father.
The tone of the international convention, which will nominate officers and chart the future of the nation's largest labor union, was set early. The chanting and jeering started as soon as the convention was brought to order and continued for most of the day.
