One type of ``safer sex'' favored by many gay men in this age of AIDS may not be so safe, University of Washington researchers have found.
In a study of 43 men and three women who recently became infected with HIV, unprotected oral sex appeared to be the most common form of sex practiced by the gay men who became infected.
``Many say oral sex is safer,'' said Dr. Timothy Schacker, lead author of the UW report in today's Annals of Internal Medicine.
``There is little question that HIV can be transmitted orally,'' Schacker said, but many believe it poses a low risk for transmitting the virus. What many fail to appreciate, he said, is that even a ...
