The life led by Nina Louise Voorhees was the stuff of novels - wide-ranging novels covering continents, generations and the sweep of World War II and the Korean War.
Mrs. Voorhees died Monday on Bainbridge Island at age 88. No services will be held at her request.
As a young woman, she was a dancer and model under the names of Nina Navarro and Nina Sorell. She ran a ballet school in New York City and in Europe. During World War II, she was interned by Nazi Germany and nearly died in a Polish labor camp.
After the war, Mrs. Voorhees worked with refugees and children recovering from the violence, winning awards for her efforts. While working in ...
