King County Medical Blue Shield and Pierce County Medical Bureau Inc. are talking merger.
Confirming merger discussions yesterday, officials of the not-for-profit organizations said the two companies could merge without disturbing ``enrollees'' as their insured customers are called, and will save money in the long run by controlling costs.
A seven-member committee of both organizations' trustees has met ``probably four times,'' said John Holtermann, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Pierce County Medical. Most of the details, such as who gets what job, have yet to be worked out, he said.
