An accidental release of pepper spray sent 24 John Muir Elementary school students to the hospital and prompted the school's principal to ban such sprays from the building on South Horton Street.
All of the fourth-graders were treated for burning eyes, wheezing and coughing and sent home to their parents, many of whom questioned why a parent volunteer was allowed to bring a small canister of the spray into a classroom.
Seattle Public Schools officials will discuss whether pepper spray should be declared a weapon and be banned from schools districtwide.
